[Im]Possible Business: Experiments Around the Edges
An exploration of the question "What else can a business be?" through projects and businesses that model exchange outside of capitalist norms. The examples provide templates and sparks for different futures that center care, repair, failure, and solidarity.
The seeds of this work were planted in 2020 with what arose in the crisis: mutual aid, experiments in solidarity, activism, and pivots, as well as a whole lot of failures. And while the government injected large amount of relief and emergency funding into the economy, we know that it was inadequate and uneven. All sorts of projects and experiments grew in those cracks.
This work is a collection of ideas and experiments from artists & queers, BIPOC & immigrant communities; those who have not been centered in our economy as guides for what we might create to better serve us all. It's not business advice, and it's not a blueprint for any particular path forward, but rather a series of sparks and glimmers to provoke our imaginations. It contains a lot of food, many artists, and a bit of lingerie; there's even an anecdote about pizza wrestling.
