Partners, Colleagues, & Comrades

Folks we partner with, think with, and plot the revolution with, and generally admire all around!

Philadelphia Area Cooperative Alliance - PACA is a cooperative,  whose members are co-ops in the Philadelphia region, dedicated to growing the cooperative economy.

CultureWorks Greater Philadelphia  - Longtime partner and sister organization providing a managment commons for the arts and non-profit community.

Sister  - Teaching and tools for the feminine economy, and home of Feminist Business School. We are grateful for Jenn's thought, wisdom, and leadership around visioning and building a feminine economy and feminist businesses.

The Sustainable Business Network - Membership organization supporting triple bottom line businesses and the sustainable economy of Greater Philadelphia. Partners in a shared mission to build "a future where businesses are investors in the quality of life for all citizens."

Philly Funding Resources -  A list of grants & loans available for small businesses. Philly-specific, though SBA's and LISC chapters provide funding in cities nationwide.

Professional & Business Services

We only recommend people and services that we have used or our clients have used. Need something that you don't see here? Ask us.

Most of these folks are great for those in the Greater Philadelphia Area & New Jersey. Since state laws vary, you'll want to find someone local to you for accounting and insurance.

Legal

John Gerber :: Gerber Growth  Even if we didn't work in the same building, John would still be our lawyer. He offers legal services and counsel to help start-ups and companies grow, from incorporation to strategy. He is our, and many of our client's and colleagues go-to for all contracts, agreements, incorporation, merger deals, and savvy business-related legal advice. We wouldn't want to run our business without John, and we don't think you should either. contact@gerbergrowth.com

Accounting

John Sullivan :: Sullivan Strategic  Our very own accountant, who we cannot sing enough praises for. John is an extremely responsive CPA, who specializes in small and mid-size businesses. Also used by many of our clients. john@sullivanstrategic.com

Jennifer Romberger  Jen is a knowledgeable accountant and supporter of the arts, who also happens to be super fun to talk to. We recommend her for sole proprietors, those in the creative fields, and smaller businesses in particular. jennifer@longfg.com

Business Services

Pay Day Payroll Our own payroll service. Customer service is prompt and outstanding,  the rates fair and accessible. Richard Black - rblack@paydaypr.com

Gusto Heartily recomend Gusto for easy-to-use one-stop shopping for folks new to hiring. They can set up everything from basic payroll to worker's comp and health insurance (and more...).

Jeff Cox | Millers Insurance If you have a business, you need insurance. Jeff offers consultative client approach and customized programs for traditional and idiosyncratic businesses alike.

Tools & Tech

Our top app picks:

Moonclerk  is how we do 90% of our billing and invoicing. It's an elegant option for recurring payments and payment plans, forms, and all sorts of other uses for accepting money.

Asana after extensive testing, we landed on Asana to manage projects and clients. The conversation features are great for teams, and the design is easy on the eyes and easy to use. Even better, it's hard to ignore, which if you've ever tried to get team buy in on a task management system...yeah, it matters. We currently use the free version; if you wanted to use with clients or customers, pay for premium features.

Evernote aka, the information vault. We use this as a CRM, an index of templates and how-tos, tracking prospects and clients. You could run your entire business off of Evernote and nothing else. It's worth paying for premium to be able to sync across multiple devices if you're a heavy user.

Acuity Scheduling  If you schedule anything in your life with other people, please do humanity (and yourself) a favor and get an app. This is our favorite - connects to Google Calendar and eliminates so much email back and forth! There's a basic free version, but it's worth every penny to pay for this app.

Freckle A fellow Philly-founded company yo! We use Freckle for team time tracking with multiple clients/projects/lots of stuff going on, it's awesome and easy.

ConvertKit Emails! Love this platform; haven't regretted switching from the Chimp once.
